Looking at an abstract picture, our eyes automatically look for familiar shapes and material objects. Это препятствует провестинию принтерного удовствелия от Ангейский. But if you try to disperse these thoughts and immerse yourself in the process of contemplation, you can come into contact with the picture on the level of emotions, not reason. Then it becomes possible to penetrate into the irrational feelings that the artist lays down in his creation. This process intrigues, forces the viewer to explore their own emotions and experiences.
Marat talks about his approach like this: «Usually I start writing spontaneously, without preliminary sketches, and in the process of creating a picture I enter a state similar to a trance. I hope, my works will open before you the world of new sensations». This method allows him to express those emotions and ideas that cannot be conveyed through concrete forms or plots.
The evolution of artistic styles in Marat's creativity
Marat's work, like any great art, went through many transformations, reflecting deep personal experiences and cultural influences. Each new stage of his path is not just a change in style, but also evidence of the artist's inner growth, his constant search and striving for something new.
Early underground period (mid-1980s – mid-1990s)
Marat's first creative period begins in Alma-Ata, where he, as a student of art school, becomes one of the founders and leaders of the underground abstract movement in Kazakhstan. This period can be characterized as naively expressive, when the artist's works, mostly executed in oil on large canvases, exuded brightness and boldness. The use of open colors, applied with large strokes, created the effect of a flashy painting that set it apart among its contemporaries.
However, despite this visual violence, his palette was carefully thought out, and the combinations of colors are harmonious. People's figures, architectural elements and natural motifs were clearly visible behind the abstract forms, which made the works recognizable, although fanciful. In addition, during this period, Marat began to create complex figurative compositions with pen on paper, full of details that the audience could watch for hours. This period can be characterized as "underground naïve" in his work, combining experimental boldness and unexpected lyricism.
Period of abstract impressionism (mid 1990s – early 2000s)
Moving to Israel became a turning point in Marat's life and his work. The new cultural environment and the influence of the Mediterranean climate changed both his perception of the world and his artistic style. Open, bright colors continue to dominate, but the technique of applying paint becomes more detailed — instead of large strokes, spatulas begin to be used to create small, textured strokes. During this period, abstraction acquires a dynamic and flowing character — shapes and colors seem to flow into each other, creating the effect of constant movement and transformations. Figures become less obvious, sinking into color interactions. This time can be called the most productive in Marat's work, as his experiments with technique and composition reach a new level.
«Тихий абстракт» (mid 2000-х - 2010 год)
Paul Cézanne's influence became decisive for the next stage of Marat's creativity. Gradually the brightness and openness of his palette give way to more complex and deep color combinations. The colors become darker, softer, which creates an atmosphere of thoughtfulness and contemplation. This is a period that art historians often call «dark abstract», characterized by a search for harmony and sophistication.
Marat's works of this time become less expressive, but more meditative. The artist increasingly pays attention to inner feelings and philosophical thoughts, which is reflected in his paintings through more complex and multi-layered color solutions.
Geometric Period (с 2010 года)
After 2010, Marat again changes the direction of his creativity, moving to geometric forms. His works acquire a strict structure, where abstract elements are enclosed in clear borders of forms that smoothly flow into each other. Inside these forms, you can notice heavenly landscapes, foggy worlds that are hidden in geometric contours. The color palette becomes even softer, moving to blue, gray and blue-green shades.
This period can be seen as Marat's attempt to order abstract chaos, adding an element of geometric rigor to his works. However, even in these forms there is still room for surrealistic elements, which makes his work mysterious and meaningful.
His work is a vivid testimony of how an artist can throughout his life not be afraid to experiment, changing forms and approaches, but at the same time remaining true to his unique vision of the world.
The artist is always happy to hear the audience's comments and wishes. In addition, he offers the opportunity to purchase both original works and prints of those paintings that you especially liked.
