The materials required for creating wall murals.

To create a high-quality mural, it’s essential to understand the techniques, painting tools, and required materials. The mural-making process is divided into three key stages:

  1. Preparing the wall and surrounding space: This includes cleaning, repairing, and applying a primer to the surface.
  2. Selecting appropriate colors, tools, and materials: Choose paints, brushes, and other supplies suited to the project.
  3. Applying a protective coating: Seal the finished mural with a protective layer to ensure durability and longevity.

1 Step 1: Preparing the wall for painting

Here’s how to prepare a room for painting a wall:

    1. Move Furniture: Start by clearing the area near the wall. Light furniture, like chairs, can be removed from the room entirely. Larger items such as cabinets, beds, and tables should be moved at least 1.5 meters (5 feet) away from the wall.
    2. Protect the Floor: Cover the floor near the wall with plastic sheets, drop cloths, or cardboard to prevent paint spills or splatters.
    3. Repair the Wall:
      • Seal any cracks or holes in the wall using putty.
      • Remove anything sticking out of the wall, such as nails, unused cables, or hooks, and apply putty to smooth the surface.
    4. Prime the Wall: If the wall surface is smooth, apply a primer like Bandrol. This step prevents the paint from soaking into the wall and strengthens the base layer for better paint adhesion.

That’s it! With these steps, your room will be ready for painting.

    2 Phase Two - Murals

Before adding color, outlines are typically drawn with a pencil, and any mistakes are erased, much like creating a sketch on paper.

There are numerous tools and techniques for creating murals. Here, we’ll focus on two popular methods:

    1. Airbrush Technique:
      • The airbrush is a pen-shaped painting tool connected to a compressor.
      • This technique produces exceptionally delicate and smooth paintings, allowing colors to blend seamlessly and create unique shades.
      • With airbrushing, the entire process is often completed using the airbrush. For fine and delicate lines, the process is finalized with a paintbrush for added precision.
    2. Brush Technique:
      • This method requires greater precision and expertise.
      • Large areas are painted using thick brushes or rollers, gradually transitioning to thinner brushes for detailed work, much like the finishing steps in airbrushing.

    Paints Suitable for Murals:
Super-Crystal water-based acrylic paints are ideal for both indoor and outdoor murals. They are low-odor, making them comfortable to use, and they dry quickly—within one to two hours.

    3 Third Stage - Varnish

After the mural is complete and the paint has dried, it is coated with varnish to enhance its appearance and longevity. Varnish not only gives the painting a shiny finish but also protects it from sun damage that can cause cracks. Additionally, it adds vibrancy and life to the mural, preserving it for many years.

There are two types of varnish: glossy varnish and matte varnish. The choice depends on your preference and the style of the painting.

    Materials for Creating Murals:

    • Putty: For repairing cracks and holes in the wall.
    • Bandrol: Primer to prepare the surface.
    • Fine Sandpaper: To smooth out the wall after applying putty.
    • Nylon Sheets: To protect the floor and surroundings.
    • Compressor: For airbrushing.
    • Airbrush: A pen-shaped tool for delicate and smooth painting.
    • Thick and Thin Brushes: For detailed work and covering large areas.
    • Rollers: For painting large sections of the wall.
    • Pencils and Erasers: For sketching outlines.
    • Water: For diluting the paint.
    • Super-Crystal (Acrylic Paint): Ideal for interior and exterior murals.
    • Ladder: Essential for working on large-scale murals.
    • Lacquer (Varnish): For protection and shine.
    • Siler: A material used for finishing touches (likely a local term or product).

Note: All materials are included in the mural price, and the painter provides them as part of the service.
